announce new studio album 'Waste7and' & European tour,
sign new deal with InsideOutMusic
Progressive Rock masters RIVERSIDE have just signed a new deal with longtime partners InsideOutMusic and are pleased to announce their upcoming seventh studio album “Wasteland” as well as its corresponding first European tour for October/November.
RIVERSIDE checked in with the following words:
“Well, we're back in the game! We're happy to tell you that our seventh album will be called "Waste7and" (Wasteland) and will be released at the end of September this year. It will be our first album recorded as a trio. Our music has become more serious and more mature, so get ready for a manly and emotional album. "Waste7and" is going to be a really accomplished one. It combines the emotional character of the first two and the production maturity of the latest two releases. If everything goes according to plan (as we're still recording), the new Riverside album will simply d e s t r o y you :)
Also this year we’re going on the “Wasteland 2018 Tour” to promote the new album. Below you will find a list of the cities we’re going to visit in the autumn of 2018. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 1st. More info soon!“
In regards to the extended co-operation via a new deal between RIVERSIDE and InsideOutMusic, Thomas Waber, label manager/A&R international InsideOutMusic, checked in with the following comment:
"We have been working with Riverside for a long time now and there is a lot of personal history. The InsideOutMusic family would be very different without them, so I am extremely pleased that the family is staying together. We all miss Piotr dearly, but i am looking forward to this new chapter. You are still with us, Grudzień!"

RIVERSIDE reveal "Wasteland" album artwork and first release details
Polish Rock masters RIVERSIDE are pleased to announce that their upcoming seventh studio album “Wasteland” will be released via their longtime label partner InsideOutMusic on September 28th, 2018.
The album will once again feature artwork (to be seen above!) designed by longtime visual partner Travis Smith (Opeth, Devin Townsend, etc.) and the record’s main track-listing reads as follows:

RIVERSIDE’s Mariusz Duda checked in with the following comment about the album’s overall concept: “I'd been thinking about exploring "post-apocalyptic" regions for a long time. I read books, watched films, played video games, all connected by stories about an attempt to survive in a world that had just ended. But writing such a story myself didn't make much sense until now. RIVERSIDE are starting a new chapter and after our recent experiences, a story like that has gained more meaning. "Wasteland" is mostly about what's happening in the world these days but it also makes a reference to the tragedy that befell the band in 2016. Musically, we've returned to darker sounds but we have also turned a new page and recorded the album in a different style. It's still RIVERSIDE but expressed in a much deeper and more mature way. Most artists say the same thing while promoting their new releases: that they have just created their best work to date. I won't say that because everything we have done so far has been consistently very good and unique. But I will say that we have never had such an incredible emotional load on any of our previous releases, and it's not likely that we will ever make such a charged album again. "Wasteland" is an epic, multidimensional, poetic and very deep album. Perhaps of the once in a lifetime kind.”
RIVERSIDE’s “Wasteland” marks the first studio album effort with newly composed music after the tragic passing of founding member and guitarist Piotr Grudziński on February 21st, 2016.

RIVERSIDE’s Mariusz Duda checked in with the following comment about the track:
“River Down Below‘ is another song we've written with “river" in the title, the fourth one, if I'm not mistaken. In our case, river symbolises memory and that's the case here as well. The lyrics tell the story of a wanderer, who accidentally finds the grave of one of those who didn't manage to survive the apocalypse. He hears a voice, "take me from here, take me to the river, that's where I belong..."
"If the band continue to exist, the memory of Grudzień will survive", said one of my friends when I thought it was the end of RIVERSIDE. So there had to be a track on the new album that would refer to it. Not literally. It's still a story about the world in an alternative future, but you can find that reference between the lines.
It's a very simple, delicate, and at the same time incredibly powerful song; one of the most beautiful RIVERSIDE melodies I have managed to write, with a brilliant solo by one of our guests, Maciej Meller. We have always subscribed to the idea that there's great power in simplicity. "River Down Below" showcases the essence of our music and gives an idea of the emotions which can be found on our upcoming new release.

zu den Vorabsongs..
"Vale of Tears" verdirbt den Ersteindruck mit einem Refrain zu nah am musikalisch längst abgefrühstückten Folk, der metallische Rest auch eher aus dem Ikea-Regal. Wird also Menschen geben, die das mögen.
"River Down Below"..
ich greif dann doch lieber auf die sehr ähnlichen Songs aus der Frühphase von Anathema zurück.
Album werde ich noch nicht abschreiben, bislang waren Riverside immer für mindestens 1-2 Hochkaräter pro Album zu haben. Ich harre der Dinge..

@hos: Der gleiche Gedanke ging mir ebenfalls durch den Kopf. Der Vergleich, der mit der Überschrift getroffen wurde, hingt tatsächlich ein wenig. Zudem waren Genesis ja ursprünglich zu fünft. Und innerhalb von zwei Jahren wurden auf fünf nur noch drei Bandmitglieder.
Anyway, ich freue mich auf die neue Riverside, genauso wie auf ihren Gig in Oberhausen...

Ich habe Riverside mittlerweile sechs mal Live hören dürfen.
Ich kann nur allen Fans von guter Handgemachter Musik empfehlen ein Konzert von dieser grandiosen Band zu besuchen.
Bin damals zufällig auf das erste Album " Out of myself" aufmerksam geworden.
Das Album hat mich damals richtig umgehauen und tut es heute noch.
Seitdem bin ich großer Fan. Ich glaube um wirklich die Qualität erkennen zu können, muss man einmal Live da gewesen sein.
Bald gehen die Jungs auf Deutschland Tour.
Bin wieder in Oberhausen in der Tubinenhalle dabei.

Anno Domini High Definition ist auch mein bislang unübertroffenes Album von Riverside. Man merkte ihnen regelrecht an, dass sie ihre (selbstangelegten) Fesseln der Reality-Dream-Trilogie abgelegt haben und frei aufspielen konnten.
Ich habe sie vorher schon live gesehen, was mir gut gefallen hat, die Tour zu ADHD war für Riverside allerdings ein sehr großer Schritt nach vorne. Mit den nachfolgenden Alben wurden sie zwar musikalisch stimmiger und haben aufnahmetechnisch an Qualität gewonnen, an die Spiel- und vor allem Experimentierfreude, die sie bei ADHD hatten, sind sie m. E. nicht mehr herangekommen.
Bis jetzt. Je häufiger ich Wasteland höre, desto mehr begeistert es mich. So extrem traurig der plötzliche Tod von Piotr Grudziński auch ist, der tiefe Einschnitt in ihrer Bandgeschichte hat sich jedenfalls positiv auf ihre musikalische Weiterentwicklung ausgewirkt.
Wasteland ist auch musikalisch natürlich im Tal der Tränen angesiedelt. Doch bei aller Melancholie, die dieses Album umgibt, kann man eine gewisse Aufbruchstimmung erkennen. Es ist ein in sich geschlossenes, aber nicht verschlossenes Werk, zu dem man trotz der Komplexität leicht Zugang erhält.

Der Title Track ist in der Tat ziemlich episch wie ich finde.
Zudem finde ich Vale Of Tears und Acid Rain auch dufte. Muss mich mal in die anderen Alben reinhören…

War leider irgendwie mein Aussteigeralbum bei der Band, seitdem haben mich nur noch Teile von Dudas Soloprojekt abgeholt. Vielleicht muss ich es auch noch mal versuchen
