Am 27.06. kommt die Neue von Kanye West. Da freut sich die HipHop-Fraktion, oder?

...

08.04.2005 - 22:38

Yepp, freu mich auch.
@pöl

...

26.04.2005 - 13:55

Kanye West
Aktuelles Album "Late Registration" - VÖ: 11.07.05

Kanye West - The Rock is still alive...

Aktuelles Album: "Late Registration" - VÖ: 15.08.05 // Aktuelle Single: "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" - VÖ: 25.07.05

Kanye West – Videodreh in Europa

Kanye West
Aktuelles Album: "The Late Registration" - VÖ: 15.08.05 // Aktuelle Single: "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" - VÖ: 25.07.05

Also, einschalten, denn Diamonds are nicht nur the Girls best Friend...

neue news aus dem allhiphop.com forum

I just got back from the Late Registration listening party...

all I can say....best album I've heard in YEARS...transcends all definitions of hte word HIPHOP...you guys don't even know how ridiculous this album is, just wait.

THIS WILL BE THE ALBUM THAT SEPARATES THE GARBAGE FROM THE REAL.

all sorts of industry people were there...Jay was standin maybe 20 feet away from me the whole time..LA reid, all them. plus Kanyes people and consequence and all the GOOD people. it was a truly amazing event.

after basically every song kanye stopped it and rapped it over acapella to make sure everyone heard every Lyric.....the lyrics by the way were INSANELY well written and thought out light years ahead of any one out right now...

THIS is 2005's CLASSIC. this is 2005's album of the year. Justw ait and you wills ee what I mean.

John Brion co-produced the album and his stamp is all over it...sounds like no other hiphop album ever....tons of live instruments, mostly all sorts of keyboards like pipe organs, harpsichords...etc. orchestras and shit just WOW. unbeleivable music. the album as a whole has a huge sound to it, a very epic scope to it, like Kanye said he wantyed to sound like he was rappin on a mountain. this isnt chipmunk soul sample shit!!!!

highlights:

the album starts off slow and relaxed, but as it goes on jsut builds and builds.

CRACK MUSIC - lyrics holy shit !!!! REAL HIPHOP for the black community right here...this shit is deep talkin about the crack generation and the baking soda producers exploiting the inudstries due to the rise of crack.
"What we gonna do about he Black Panthers/ I don't know but ronald reagan had an asnwer" talkin about reagan not as president but as governor of California in the 70's, supplying crack to black activists to keep them in check and disarm them.

WE MAJOR - NAS godamn!!! what an amazing song, at the end there is about three minutes of jsut intense, momentum building instruments that build off each other, keyboards strings horns and shit wow this song was amazing....right after the Nas verse he stopped it and stood on stage and jsut stared at Jay, and the place went nuts, and he was like im gonna have to talk about this noww....he said hte other day jsut a few days ago he was riding in his car with Hov and played the song, and during that crazy ending part Jay started wildin out and just spittin over it and Kanye was like godamn how you gonna do this to me! two days before the listenin party and youre feelin the trakc WITH NAS ON IT!! JAY WAS FEELING THIS TRACK!!! I mean while it was playing he was really diggin it no joke.

the song with Cam is a standout, Cam comes so hard on this and flows like butter...Cam spits like a serious emcee not the dipset shit he usually throws out in 5 minutes.

so many others...like "Drive Slow" which had paul wall on it althought he wasnt that noticeable,,,the end is screwed up.

Hey Mama sounds real different than the version everyone knows, its amazing, John Brion added unbeleivable keyboards to this song sounds completely different as far as whats goin on underneath kanyes song. he siad he's gonna perform this September 7th on Oprah to his mom.

the end of the album is unreal...

I probably sound like a dooschbag right now but wait til August 16th...this album will set the bar for years to come for not just hiphop but for all popular music, sonically and artistically.

I"M NOT EVEN GONNA GET STARTED ON THE LYRICS CAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH HE SAID ITS GONNAE TAKE WEEKS AND MANY LISTENS TO SOAK IT ALL IN. no joke.

5 stars....It's a celebration bitches!

PS - Kanye said something to the effect of : "you know it would be pretty easy to jsut be like 'Hey Mr. President, I'm not feelin this joint right now, can you just spit a couple lines on here and well have a radio hit?"

okay, jetzt bin ich wirklich gehypt

During Wednesday night's listening session for Late Registration,

Kanye revealed that album number three, entitled Graduation, will come out in October 2006. He explained that the title of his fourth full length (no release date for that one yet) is named after what everyone seeks after they graduate: A Good Ass Job.

West himself hasn't done too shabbily with his present professions, excelling as a super producer, label CEO and acclaimed hip-hop performer. Since his rapping came to the forefront, he's emerged as one of genre's most successful artists — and admits that he may have occasionally tooted his own horn louder than some people would have liked (see "Kanye Previews New LP, Modestly Exclaims: 'This Is Killing Everything Out There!' ").

"I talk so much sh--, of course [the media asks], 'Oh man, can he do it again?" Kanye said, standing on a small stage at Sony studios for his Late Registration listening session.

If you remember the historic listening session of 2004 — not historic in the groundbreaking sense, like DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince winning rap its first Grammy, but more in an memorable sense, as those in attendance will never forget Kanye's speech or his performance of "Get Em High" with Common — you know that he takes pride in sharing his art with listeners (see "Common, John Mayer Drop In To Preview Kanye West's Dropout"). This time he did so on a larger scale, with people like Jay-Z, Talib Kweli and L.A. Reid in attendance. West played his album for over 300 people, told the story behind each track and even held a question-and-answer session afterwards. And the fact that he's going to these lengths to present his new project speaks to the fact that West is one of the most passionate MCs in hip-hop today.

"We're here for a special event," Jay-Z said before introducing his friend. "This is Kanye's sophomore album. I said on a lot of records that Kanye is a genius, and I wasn't just freestyling. I really meant that." "There's nothing that they would love more than me to come subpar so they could find something wrong," Kanye, dressed in a blazer and jeans, said of the media. "I'm not putting nothing out unless I can talk my sh--. I want to give y'all something that y'all will remember." West certainly did it the first time with The College Dropout, creating a classic LP out of a collection of songs as diverse as the colors of Polo shirts in his Louis Vuitton suitcase. And you can't accuse Kanye of coming with the same old thing on Late Registration, either. What other MC would talk about blood diamonds the way West does on the "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" remix (see " 'Diamonds' Remix: Kanye Raps About Rocks, Jay Raps About Roc")?

When he accuses the government of flooding the black community with drugs and calls AIDS a man-made disease, West isn't saying anything we haven't heard before, but he's in a small group of current rappers who will touch political subject matter. Whether you agree with the lyrics Ye drops on "Crack Music" or not, he's making it clear that he has something on his mind other than sleeping with a groupie, blasting another MC to smithereens or riding in a car with suicide doors.

"Crack Music" is an instant motivator. You feel like you have to move your head when West and the track's guest star the Game start yelling, "That's that crack music n---a!/ That real black music n---a!" "Whatever happened to making that black music n---a?" Kanye asked the crowd. "It's certain people that get certain accolades, and they forget. This song, 'Crack Music,' has a few layers because it says that this is the music that's made from the crack generation." "You hear that?" he asks on the song. "What was Gil Scott hearin'?/ Why our heroes and heroines got hooked on heroin?" "I started [thinking], if I was to make a song about [crack], I wanted to start where my parents told me it started," West said, explaining the record's origins. " 'How we stop the Black Panthers?/ Ronald Reagan cooked up the answer.' You say, 'Ronald wasn't even the president at the time,' but he was the governor of [California] when the CIA conspired to bring down the Black Panther Party. It goes back to artists being on the chitterling circuit and labels giving them drugs to lull them over and not be focused on their business. Crack was placed in the black community, used to separate the groups who were to protect us from police brutality and racism at the time." West does floss hard on Late Registration — he even has record called "Celebration" — but strikes a balance on the LP.

"Heard 'Em Say," which features Maroon 5's Adam Levine, is another track that follows Kanye's contemplative political path. "So this is in the name of love like Robert say/ Before you ask me to go get a job today/ Can I at least get a raise from minimum wage?/ And I know the government administered AIDS/ So I guess we just pray like the government say." "I had to fight with myself 'cause he's so good, yet he's so popular," the Chicago native said about working with Levine. "The popularity takes away from the illness of having him. Like I have Lupe Fiasco [on a Late Registration track] 'cause I feel he's one of the best MCs coming out, but nobody knows about him yet. So if I put him on, that's ill. That's keeping it real.

"Then it's like, 'Kanye has a song with Adam Levine?" West continued. "It just seems so post-Grammy ... but [Adam's] so ill! His voice sounds like a f---ing instrument. The only other dude that has a voice like that is Akon."

West said he and Levine actually decided which song they would do while on a flight to Rome. "I played him the song," West explained. "He said, 'I got a song just like that, but I don't know if my fans will like that because it's a little R&B. But I want to do a record like that.' He already had the chorus. I used to play that song for people, but girls never liked the song. ... Adam laid his vocals to that, girls start liking the record and it's the [third] single."

Each record that Kanye played, from "Drive Slow" with Paul Wall and GLC to "Bring Me Down" with Brandy, received such a positive reaction that he played a record he planned to debut on Funkmaster Flex's New York radio show. The track — one of Jay-Z's favorites — is called "We Major" and features Nas. Nas raps, "I love to give my blood sweat and tears to the mic/ So y'all cop the LPs and fiends got helped/ I'm like Jesse Jackson on the balcony when King got killed/ I survived the livest n---as around ..." West actually shared the production duties on this album with Fiona Apple collaborator Jon Brion. West needed to find a richer sound and is thoroughly excited with what Brion was able to help him put forth.

Toward the end of the listening session, West reiterated that he stands 100 percent behind his latest work. "I'm not finnin' to put nothing out unless I can talk sh-- afterwards."

Late Registration is due in stores August 30. The next single from the LP is "Gold Digger," featuring Jamie Foxx.

KanYe West
Aktuelle Single: "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" - VÖ: 08.08.05 // Aktuelles Album: "Late Registration" - VÖ: 29.08.05

Throw your Diamonds In The Sky if you feel the vibe!

Kanye räumt ab

"'Late Registration'...just might be this year's most eagerly anticipated album, in any genre." - New York Times

"'Late Registration,' is the most dynamic and original album of the fall-maybe even the year." - Newsweek

"...One of the better sounding rap records in history...widely expected to be the biggest-selling record of the year." - Time Magazine

XXL Wertung im XXL Magazine.

5 Sterne vom Rolling Stone

If anything, Kanye West is too modest. Yeah, he's got an ego or two -- he's liable to compare himself to Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali, Bill Gates and Prince, sometimes in the same sentence. But he pours all that ego into musical ambition. As he says, "I ain't putting nothing out unless I can talk shit afterward." On Late Registration, the Louis Vuitton Don doesn't just set out to create pop music -- he wants to be pop music. So he steps up his lyrical game, shows off his epic production skills, reaches higher, pushes harder and claims the whole world of music as hip-hop turf. He aims for what he calls "that Coldplay, Portishead, Fiona Apple style" in his mad quest to explode every cliche about hip-hop identity. Can he get it done? Yes, he can. And like Reggie Jackson used to say, it ain't bragging if you can do it.

West blew up last year with the bling/backpack synthesis of The College Dropout, the preppy-fabulous debut smash that people still can't stop arguing about. For some, Dropout proves hip-hop is in a rut, as an example of what everybody else isn't doing; for others, it proves hip-hop is still evolving, as music nobody outside hip-hop could make. Whatever your pet theory on the state of hip-hop, Dropout gave you a challenge, flaws and all. But Late Registration is an undeniable triumph, packed front to back, so expansive it makes the debut sound like a rough draft. West has turned into a real MC, earning the right to boast about opening a store for aspiring Kanye wanna-be's: "But if they ever flip sides like Anakin/ You will sell everything, including the mannequin/They got a new bitch, now you're Jennifer Aniston."

All over Late Registration, he indulges his sentimental R&B-poet side ("Roses"), his Seventies slow-jam love jones ("Celebration"), his wit ("Gold Digger"), his hard-ass politics ("Crack Music") and his love of Maroon 5 ("Heard 'Em Say," featuring Adam Levine). He calls in the heavyweights: Jay-Z, Common, Brandy, Cam'ron, Consequence, the Game, Paul Wall. But his MVP is Fiona Apple producer Jon Brion, whose previous hip-hop experience is zero. A bold move, yet a brilliant one -- Brion brings in live orchestrations and weird instruments as raw material for West's imagination. Give 'Ye a harpsichord and he will make it funky.

If this album has an emotional stunner a la "Jesus Walks," it's "Hey Mama," where West honors his mother, who had to work nights to keep on the lights. It loops a simple la-la-la vocal hook into a soul-sonic force, like Side Two of Prince's Sign 'o' the Times after aliens hacked into it. It's the best family-affair tearjerker since Ghostface's "All That I Got Is You," as West raps, "Can I cry, please?/Gimme a verse of 'You Are So Beautiful to Me.'" He also promises her he'll go back to school, though we'll believe it when we see the tuition check. "Gone" builds a totally mental funk loop out of an Otis Redding groan. Even weirder, "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" flips a James Bond theme into an ominous lament for slave labor in Africa.

"We Major" is the high point, but it's a close call on an album where nothing sucks except the skits. It's a splashy Love Boat disco groove, featuring a guest rap from Nas -- a megasurprise considering that West produced Jay-Z's Nas-bashing classic "Takeover." Midway through, the music fades to silence and then West asks, "Can I talk my shit again?" The beat kicks back in and West proudly talks his shit, still going strong as the groove rolls on past the seven-minute mark. After the triumph of Late Registration, he can talk all he wants.

Kanye West
Aktuelles Album: "Late Registration" - VÖ: 29.08.05 // Aktuelle Single: "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" - VÖ: 08.08.05

Kanye West - Der Medizinmann

Late Registration

by Matthew Gasteier

The second release by the most obnoxious, egotistical and self-centered hip-hop artist in the history of obnoxious, egotistical, and self-centered hip-hop artists, Late Registration is neither the classic Kanye West would have you believe nor the disappointment detractors desperately wanted. The twenty-one-track album (including five throwaway skits) manages to mostly avoid any real lows. But bereft of undeniable classics such as “All Falls Down,” “Jesus Walks” and “Slow Jamz,” the album sits uncomfortably in the middle -- uncomfortable because it is so obviously striving for something better.

After a quick reprise of the opening skit from his 2004 debut, College Dropout, “Heard ‘Em Say” opens the album with Adam Levine of Maroon 5, the first uncomfortable guest appearance in a long line of uncomfortable guest appearances. Levine has a competent but totally soulless voice. How much better would this song be with the suspiciously absent John Legend? Brandy doesn’t fare any better on “Bring Me Down,” one of the album’s weakest songs, and Consequence and Really Doe give weak performances on “Gone” and “We Major,” respectively. Even stranger is how bad the Common appearance is on “My Way Home” (that Pale Horse section is painful). But the really awkward guest appearance is from Nas. He gets lost in some weeping horns that are the exact opposite of what Nas is supposed to rhyme over, and half of his verse is about how he shouldn’t be rhyming over it. And did Jay-Z just say he would support Memphis Bleek no matter how poorly his music does? That’s just emasculating right there.

But the guest appearances are not the point. Kanye is making a statement with this album. I think. Either way, having a muddled statement is better than his ignorant ravings about how bad college is on his last album. But his attempts at insight here are elementary at best. When he talks about politics, like on the incongruently scored “Crack Music” and the remix of “Diamonds from Sierra Leone,” it sounds like someone gave him a five-minute rundown on the issue before he wrote the song. When he attempts to make a personal or social statement, like on “Addiction” and “Hey Mama,” the inventive beats far surpass the commentary.

Which leads to the biggest problem with Kanye, and the one that will always prevent his universal acceptance: Dude isn’t an emcee, he’s a singer. He rides a beat for melody, not rhythm, and he crafts his wordplay around the beat, not around his thoughts or stories. That’s why “All Falls Down” was so good: It was written without a beat in mind. When he uses this new method, he doesn’t succeed at singing, basically because his voice can’t carry a song. Unlike other rappers with equally grating voices, his cadences can sound forced and awkward instead of playful or illuminating, and it’s difficult to follow his words rather than get caught up in his unfortunately annoying voice.

The record succeeds because of the instrumentals. “Touch the Sky” pulls out the soul horns Kanye’s been flirting with his whole career, and it sounds like a great Be-side (why didn’t Common jump on this?). Even better are “Addiction,” which sounds like Etta James on heroin, and especially “Drive Slow,” where Kanye’s already syrupy laid-back jazz meets Screw. The collaboration with Jon Brion has been much hyped (he earned a co-producer credit), and it’s somewhat difficult to know what Brion brought to the table (other than a better knack for arrangements). But I like to think he helped with the great strings on “Gone” and the superb vocal mixing on “Roses.”

Unlike What’s Going On or the Bible, both of which Kanye has compared his latest offering to (which one is more blasphemous?), there is no statement here, no point. And yet it still so obviously aspires to those heights. Undoubtedly, Kanye West thinks his new album can be the best hip-hop album of all time. But because he has nothing real to talk about, because he isn’t crafting protest songs or timeless morality tales, the music shoots off into the atmosphere with nowhere to arrive. So then the album’s only ambition is to be good -- well, not just good, the goodest ever. That’s pretty much what it achieves.
