Mit LaBries Gesang werde ich in diesem Leben nicht mehr warm. Ansonsten solide DT-Kost, natürlich wieder mit schönem Frickelteil, der sehr viele Töne enthält. Insgesamt ist mir der Song ein wenig zu konventionell, er mag lang sein, aber so wirklich überraschend ist kaum ein Part. Denke aber mal, dass Fans damit ihre Freude haben werden.

Finde den Song als Gelegenheitshörer der Band gut, Petrucci is on fire! Und eine gute Wahl als erste Veröffentlichung vom neuen Album, natürlich nichts Neues aber wäre auch komisch, wenn sie jetzt nach lang ersehntem Portnoy-Comeback den Fans auf einmal einen neuen Sound präsentieren würden.

Das stimmt. Nur finde ich den hier besser.

Dass sie seit Jahren nur noch ihre gewohnte Formel abspulen, ist natürlich zu kritisieren und was LaBrie da singt, kennt man auch schon. Das Anfangsriff und Petruccis Solo sind gut. Dazwischen aber wieder ihre Standardharmonien.

Klingt wie immer. Die gleichen Zutaten werden wieder verquirlt. Gute Gitarrenriffs, schwere Schlagzeugläufe einmal über alle Felle, typische Keyboardpassagen, dann zusammen mit der Gitarre. Das alles zwischen dem typischen LaBriegesang, der mich auch nicht mehr abholt.
Alles endet in einem typischen Progfinale mit den gefühlt schon gehörten Gitarrentonfolgen, nochmal der Refrain in leicht abgewandelten Rhythmus, etwas epischer inszeniert und dann ist es auch vorbei.

Natürlich nicht schlecht, aber die wievielte Version des immer Gleichen braucht man noch?

Dennoch bin ich auf die Setlisten gespannt. In Europa wird es bestimmt etwas weniger neue Stücke geben, da die Platte erst im Februar 2025 kommen wird.
Hätten sie nicht einfach eine Reuniontour ohne neuen Kram machen können? Einfach mal 2,5 Stunden die Karrierehöhepunkte, was schon schwer genug ist auszuwählen.

Der Song ist nicht schlecht, fühlt sich für mich aber auch nach DT by numbers an.

Octavarium war die letzte Platte, die mich richtig abgeholt hat, da haben sie mit "Panic Attack" und "Never enough" auch noch mal was Neues gewagt. Wofür sie allerdings auch viel kritisiert worden sind. Nach Systematic Chaos habe ich alle neueren Alben bei Erscheinen 1-3 gehört. Und dann lieber was Älteres aufgelegt, wenn ich Lust uf die Band hatte.

Live möchte ich mir die bei aller Nostalgie und trotz "Reunion" angesichts der Ticketpreise und Labries Stimme, die ich schon ab 2002 immer als Störfaktor erlebt habe, nicht mehr anhören.

Vom Eröffnungstrack „In The Arms Of Morpheus“ bis zum letzten Stück „The Shadow Man Incident“ kehren Dream Theater mit einer Sammlung von Songs zurück, die zeigen, was der Band seit vier Jahrzehnten eine treue Fangemeinde beschert hat. Jo, alles wieder da, nur leider kennt man es mittlerweile. Ich hatte ja gehofft, dass sie mit Portnoys Rückkehr noch einmal einen kreativen Schub erfahren, aber das war wohl etwas naiv gedacht.

Kann man laufen lassen, aber dann kann man sich auch einfach die alten Großtaten, von denen diese beiden Songs weit entfernt sind, anhören.

Na ja, Standardware halt. Petruccis Poser-Solo gefällt mir, jedoch ist das Drumherum wieder zu viel 08/15.
