February 23, 2026 – Linda Perry has released “Beautiful,” the first single from her upcoming solo album Let It Die Here, out May 8th on Kill Rock Stars/670 Records. Perry revisited her iconic song “Beautiful,” delivering a raw, intimate performance that reframes the anthem through her own lived experience. Delivered with stark vulnerability, Perry showcases the song’s message of self-acceptance and being free to be whoever you want to be. Linda Perry will also be performing “Beautiful” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! February 24th. Let It Die Here marks Perry’s first solo album in over 25 years. The inspiration to write these songs emerged during the filming of her deeply personal documentary, also titled Let It Die Here.

To accompany “Beautiful,” Linda tapped actor/producer/director Sara Gilbert who created a visually stunning short film/music video based around a talent show with a 1940’s influence but also feels timeless. The film stars their child Rhodes Perry, actor Lukas Haas, Shane Powers (Babylon, Survivor) as well as a cast of a close circle of friends, family, actors and musicians. The breathtaking set showcases costume designer Gara Gambucci’s gorgeous wardrobe (she also gave an additional iconic Linda Perry hat a starring role) and the shoot was filled with a talented crew, including some of The Conners team who all contributed their talents to create a video that showcases the importance of being unafraid to show the world who you really are.

Following its critically acclaimed debut at the Tribeca Film Festival, Mercury Studios recently announced that the feature-length documentary Linda Perry: Let It Die Here will launch a global theatrical roll out beginning in May, with a streaming debut to follow. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Don Hardy (Citizen Penn, Pick of the Litter) and produced by KTF Films, the film offers an unfiltered portrait of one of the most influential figures in modern music. Evan Saxon Productions will distribute the film theatrically.
Grammy and Golden Globe-nominated producer and Songwriter Hall of Fame inductee Linda Perry is one of the most accomplished people working in music today. Beginning her musical journey as the lead singer of 4 Non Blondes, she has profoundly impacted pop culture through her work as a producer and songwriter. Her resounding influence on female empowerment resonates through her sincere artistry, helping shape the sounds of P!nk, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Britney Spears, Adele, Ariana Grande, Celine Dion, Miley Cyrus and many more.
4 Non Blondes’ debut album, Bigger, Better, Faster, More!, spent more than a year on the Billboard 200 after its release in 1992, going platinum and spawning the anthem, “What’s Up?,” ubiquitous on MTV at the time and still a rallying cry against those forces of quasi-political control in the name of personal freedom. The song entered the prestigious Spotify Billions Club in November 2024, while the video is currently closing in on 2 billion YouTube views. Despite their meteoric rise, 4 Non Blondes disbanded in 1994, with lead vocalist Linda Perry going from her auspicious start in 4 Non Blondes to a wildly successful career as a songwriter, producer, label owner and, including such platinum records as Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful,” Gwen Stefani’s “What You Waiting For?” and P!nk’s “Get the Party Started.”
In 2019, Perry earned a groundbreaking Grammy nomination for Producer of the Year, making her the first woman in 15 years to be nominated in the category. Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominations followed for her work on “Girl In the Movies,” a track she co-wrote with Dolly Parton for the Netflix film “Dumplin.” Perry has also scored the films “Luckiest Girl Alive,” “To Leslie,” “Citizen Penn” and the 2021 documentary “Kid 90.” In March 2022, she launched EqualizeHer, a charitable initiative she co-founded with Alisha Ballard to achieve equal representation for women across all aspects of the music industry. In 2025 Linda Perry reunited with her original band 4 Non Blondes, which she first formed in the Bay Area in 1989 in the middle of an earthquake with co-founding bassist Christa Hillhouse. The two joined with drummer Dawn Richardson and guitarist Roger Rocha, both members of the original touring band, for first time in more than 33 years. “I put my feelers out into the universe,” said Perry about the reunion. “Playing some songs with 4 Non Blondes just seemed like a fun thing to do, in a way it hadn’t before now. I’ve been behind the scenes for far too long. I want to step out to be the artist I am. I’m just open to all the possibilities that I’ve created around me. I manifest things all the time.”
On the heels of a successful reunion in 2025 and performing at music festivals around the world, Linda Perry and 4 Non Blondes went viral on TikTok with the “What’s Up/Beez In The Trap” mashup, reaching #1 on the platform’s trending song charts and generating more than 3 million user created videos. Sicher nicht uninteressant und "Beautiful" kann man natürlich kaum als Cover bezeichnen. Von der schicken Aguilera einst geschmettert und von der äußerst begabten Perry komponiert.

So richtig überzeugt es mich nicht. Linda Perrys Stimme hat sicher ihre Stärken. Mit der von Christina Aguilera zu konkurrieren in einem Song, der in der anderen Version sehr bekannt ist, zählt eher nicht dazu ...

Mag schon sein, dass der Song Aguilera gut zu Gesicht steht wie auch Jennifer Warnes "First we take Manhattan", aber Linda und Leonard haben den Bonus, es geschrieben zu haben. Ist mir einfach wichtig

Das ist nicht schlecht und für sie ja anscheinend auch ein sehr wichtiger Song bzw. Statement...
... aber unabhängig davon ist ihr Album "In flight" um Welten besser, kantigen, emotionaler. Ein echtes Meisterwerk, mit dem sie leider so gar keinen Erfolg hatte.
Trotzdem: Wenn es ihr mit dieser glatteren Musik besser geht und sie vielleicht auch wieder mehr beachtet wird, ist ihr das von Herzen zu gönnen.
Aber ein wenig schade um das Potenzial ist's schon!

Beautiful und auch Hurt sind emotionale persönliche Songs und bis letztes Jahr von einer zweifelsohne guten Sängerin dargeboten gewesen.

Ich habe mich gefreut, dass sie sich zurückmeldet. Als erste Single hätte ich mir eben doch mehr was Neues gewünscht als eine Neuauflage eines Songs, der gegenüber der bekannten Version nicht unbedingt gewinnt. Auch wenn es ihrer ist, was natürlich zu honorieren ist.

Ich freue mich, dass sie wieder selber Musik macht und bin sehr gespannt. Ihr Soloalbum In Flight gehört zu meinen Lieblingsalben. Sie bringt wunderbar ihre eigene Zerrissenheit und ihre Zweifel in den Songs unter und laut Trailer der Dokumentation gehören diese Themen zu ihrem Leben. Und sie hat einfach eine grandiose Stimme!

Aber ich bin neugierig: Was genau soll "What's up?" so schlecht machen? Gesang? Melodie? Text? Was?

Die Penetranz würde ich sagen. Man denkt bitte bitte nicht noch ein „and I said hey“ ist bestimmt auch viel der Tatsache geschuldet, dass es früher kein Entrinnen gab vor schlimmer Musik, weil man MTV und co ausgeliefert war.
Klar alles Geschmacksache, aber die Mehrgeit der Menschheit hört nunmal schlimme Musik. Dafür ist man heute safe for Cotton eye Joe wenn man nicht gerade zum Ballermann fährt, im ZDF Fernsehgarten sitzen oder der Disco Pause in der CDU Parteizentrale beiwohnt.

Die Band sprang halt damals auf Grunge-Mode-Train auf. Wirkt alles aufgesetzt, wortwörtlich dieser echt bekloppte Hut. Ein Anzeichen dass grunge dem Tode geweiht war.
Red flag sehe ich auch bei barfüßigen Sängern :D

Dean Ween: I don’t remember where I was, or what I was doing, but I remember hearing it and thinking, “This is the most obnoxious fucking hollering I’ve ever heard in my life.” I could envision the horrible, horrible female that was singing it, and I knew that it was gonna be a hit, just by how bad I hated it. I knew that it was going to be played for years by every fucking bad girl band that came through my local bar, and sung on every karaoke night for the rest of time. I was just instantly overcome with a sense of dread, and of course it’s all come to pass. Then I saw the video for it, and the people that I imagined would be so loathsome as to make such a piece of shit of a song looked identical to what I imagined them to be in my mind.
It’s as bad as music gets. The pinnacle of the whole thing is when she does this powerful “Revolution!” What the fuck does this have to do with revolution? Wow, powerful stuff, asshole!„

Halte ich für Quatsch. Das war auch kein Grunge-Versuch oder ähnliches, das war einfach der Alternative-Poprock der Neunziger, der mir vom Sound her weit besser gefiel als heutiges. Ein weiterer Hit war damals "Two princes" von den Spin Doctors, ebenso wie "Whats up" Dauergast bei MTV, nur nicht ganz so penetrant.
Auch wenn es an anderer Stelle schon gesagt wurde: Linda Perrys Solodebüt "In flight" ist ein Meisterwerk. Wer sich das wegen der Ablehnung von "Whats up" nicht anhört, verpasst viel aus den falschen Gründen.
Das neue Album ist gemessen am Debüt eine kleine Enttäuschung. Aber immerhin klingt es authentisch und ihre Stimme ist schon besonders. "Sunday's best" ist mein Favorit.

So beiläufig wahrgenommen damals, so direkt Gründe für Komplexe seh ich bei Linda weniger. Ein wirklich schöner Trend war Trip Hop, der bis heute anhält. Und heute wird ja Künstlern wie Ed nachgeeifert, die Konzerte allein akustisch spielen.

Also, What's Up ist Pachelbels Kanon in D der Popmusik. Alle finden das schön. Nur das gerade hier Plattentests manche meinen, sie hätten einen ach so besonderen Musikgeschmack. Das ist halt elitäres Gehabe. Solche Leute hören dann heimlich Songs wie What's Up.

Wusste gar nicht dass Carl Barat, Stuart Braithwaite und Dean Ween auch auf PT schreiben ;) auf Reddit gibt’s auch diverse threads mit ablehnender Haltung gegenüber dem Song. Der polarisiert dann wohl doch ziemlich. Wer die 90er erlebt wird wissen, dass es damals wichtig war sich abzugrenzen von allem Mainstream Populären. 4 non blondes waren halt nicht gerade sehr deep sondern eher durchschaubar aufgesetzt.
Da ist die heutige Generation weiter und toleranter. Und deswegen sollte man sich heutzutage auch so Boomer Sätze verkneifen wie „früher gabs noch dies das Ananas.“
Heute kann man immer noch wunderbare Musik entdecken, sogar mehr denn je, weil man halt wenn so Fußnagelkrallersong wie what‘s up skipper kann

Wirkt alles aufgesetzt, wortwörtlich dieser echt bekloppte Hut.
Die war ja damals sogar im Playboy, nur mit diesem komischen Hut aufgesetzt, aber ansonsten nackend. Witzig und erbärmlich zugleich. Allerdings wohlgeformte Brüste, das muss man schon mal zugeben dürfen.
