SOMEBODY’S CHILD Returns with new single ‘Broken Record’ Watch the video HERE Signs to Frenchkiss Records Announces huge 2023 UK/IRE/EU Tour Tickets on sale Friday at 10am Ireland’s Somebody’s Child otherwise known as Cian Godfrey, launched with a slew of great indie-pop singles in 2018-2019, and released his 20-Something EP during the 2020 lockdown that included hit singles 'Hold Me Like You Wanna’ (1.5 mil streams) and 'We Could Start a War’ (3.2 mil streams), which gained BBC Radio 1 and Radio X attention. Never one to rest on his laurels, two EPs followed in quick succession (2021’s Hope, Amongst Other Things and Staying Sane), and when he was finally able to perform his first headline tour of the UK and Ireland in late 2021, the shows witnessed large crowds of enthusiastic fans and an atmosphere of celebration. Today he shares new single ‘Broken Record’ and announces he’s signed to cult indie label Frenchkiss Records, as well as a mammoth UK/IRE/EU tour early next year that goes on sale Friday at 10am here. Syd Butler, Founder and President of Frenchkiss Records says of the signing, “Frenchkiss is thrilled to be able to work with Somebody’s Child. I love their ability to layer both mature songwriting with vulnerability. This kind of authenticity is something that I find is lacking in much of today’s music. Somebody’s Child provides this exact element that is still needed, both in recording and playing live. They are nothing short of amazing." ‘Broken Record’ is “unapologetically loud” and sets out his stall perfectly - perhaps as direct as SC has ever sounded, it’s a song of lament juxtaposed with a stadium-ready chorus. It harbours resentment and drive simultaneously, as Godfrey explores themes of youth against a wall of electric guitars as if Oasis had a new frontman in Matt Berninger (The National). Watch / Listen to ‘Broken Record’ HERE On the video Cian says, “It explores my fear of growing up. Getting older and feeling trapped, attempting to reconnect with my former self and trying to regain a sense of innocence that was once taken for granted." SOMEBODY'S CHILD - Neue Single / Album über Frenchkiss / Berlin ShowCian Godfrey aka Somebody's Child kündigt heute sein selbstbetiteltes Debüt-Album via Frenchkiss Records für den 03. Februar 2023 an. Somebody's Child Live: 18. - 21. We’re not all smoking cigarettes, drinking Guinness around a candle in some pub reading Joyce. We’re a forward thinking group of people who are struggling to afford to live in the place we’re from. This album has been my escape" sagt Godfrey. Weiter sagt er: "’We Could Start A War' is a huge track for us. The original version was a demo I wrote in 20 minutes or so and Shea produced in our little makeshift studio in Dublin. We spent 50 quid on artwork and just put it out, now it's our biggest song. This is now the real version, I guess. The timing is also serendipitous because the video is about where it was written, and the juxtaposition between beauty in tradition, and the ugly face of gentrification - of which both are in abundance. Now I've moved to London, partly because of the result of this - not being able to afford life in my hometown."
