“The Darkness That You Fear”
The Chemical Brothers veröffentlichen heute ihre erste Single seit dem Release ihres 2019er Albums “No Geography“. Aufgebaut auf zwei verschiedenen Vocal-samples, soll “The Darkness That You Fear” Hoffnung vermitteln: es gibt ein Licht am Ende des Tunnels.
Tom Rowlands selbst über die Single: “The Darkness That You Fear is a hopeful piece of music. When we found the combination of the different voices worked set to the flow of the music it made us feel optimistic, like it was something we wanted to share.”
Das wilde, halluzinogen Video entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit Ruffmercy, einem aus Bristol stammenden Regisseur, der bisher mit Künstlern wie Thom Yorke, Run The Jewels und DJ Shadow zusammengearbeitet hat.
Ruffmercy über die Arbeit an “The Darkness That You Fear”: “When I first heard the song I immediately connected with the theme and the overall positive vibe. New government rules for relaxing lockdown had been announced and combined with the sun shining, it left me feeling positive about the forthcoming summer. It also triggered a strong sense of nostalgia that led to me going back to look for visual inspiration from the period in time when I first discovered The Chemical Brothers in the mid ’90’s. The video combines archive rave footage from the mid to late 90’s with hand painted Super 8 film textures and hand drawn animation. I love using colour to create chaos and evoke emotions and this was the perfect project to do that.”
Das Artwork von “The Darkness That You Fear” stammt von Sir Terry Frost, dem verstorbenen britischen Künstler für abstrakte Malerei.
“The Darkness That You Fear” ist die erste Veröffentlichung der Chemical Brothers seit Release ihres Tracks “Eve Of Destruction” aus ihrem Album “No Geography”, das 2019 mit ihrer großen Herbst-Tournee zusammenfiel, die ihren Höhenpunkt in einer ausverkauften Show in der Londoner O2 Arena hatte. The Chemical Brothers (zusammen mit Langzeit-Kollaborateuren Smith und Lyall) kreierten außerdem die Installation ‘Electronic - From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers’ – die beliebteste Ausstellung aller Zeiten des London Design Museums.
The Chemical Brothers wurden außerdem als Headliner für Freitagabend des diesjährigen Creamfields Festival in Daresbury, Chesire (26. – 29. August, bereits ausverkauft) und für Sonntagnacht beim TRNSMT in Glasgow bestätigt.

Die Multi-Platin Band gehört zu den einflussreichsten elektronischen Bands aller Zeiten. Über einen Zeitraum von drei Dekaden haben sich die musikalischen Pioniere genreübergreifend durchgesetzt. Bekannt für ihre einzigartigen Visuals und Liveshows, haben sich mittlerweile über 13 Millionen Alben und fast 20 Millionen Singles verkauft, gestreamt wurden ihre Tracks inzwischen über 3 Milliarden Mal. Und wenn man sich „No Reason“, den neuen Release der Grammy Award-Gewinner anhört, ist es offensichtlich, dass es sich um die aktuelle Veröffentlichung der Chemical Brothers handelt! Begleitet wird es von einem Visualizer, der unter der Regie von Langzeit-Kollaborateuren Smith & Lyall entstanden ist, die Dance-Performance wurde vom Gecko Theatre choreographiert und umgesetzt, die jedem bekannt sein wird, der 2022 eine der Festival Performances der Band live erlebt hat. „No Reason“ wurde von Giles Martin in den Abbey Road Studios gemastert, der zuletzt den Beatles Backkatalog bearbeitet hat. Die Single wird ebenfalls zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt als rote Vinyl 12“ erhältlich sein mit dem bisher unveröffentlichten B-Seiten Track „All Of A Sudden“. „No Reason“ ist der erste Release seit dem zuletzt veröffentlichten Track „The Darkness That You Fear“ aus dem Jahr 2021. Die Band arbeitet derzeit an dem Nachfolger des Albums „No Geography“, das 2019 erschienen ist. Des Weiteren sind The Chemical Brothers dieses Jahr bei folgenden Festivals zu sehen:
