THE JULIANA THEORY
RETURNS WITH FIRST NEW MUSIC IN 15 YEARS AND ANNOUNCES
SIGNING TO RUDE RECORDS/EQUAL VISION RECORDS

WATCH NOW THE VIDEO FOR NEW TRACK
“CAN’T GO HOME”
The Juliana Theory have returned with new song and video “Can’t Go Home” - their first new music in over 15 years - today, November 20th via Rude Records/Equal Vision Records. Listen to the track now via your preferred listening service and check out the video here!
"I think people are feeling uncertain right now” said songwriter and vocalist Brett Detar. “I'd say that it's pretty impossible not to feel that way. As humans I imagine we've always innately known that there's no way to turn back the hands of time to simpler days but 2020 has fed us all an uncomfortably large dose of unfamiliarity – ‘wayward stranger days’. Is this uncertainty a new normal? I'm not sure but I've always used music as a coping mechanism and I think this year I've needed it more than at any other point in my life. Many of us are feeling isolated and removed. Joyous collective experiences like live music shows are gone for the foreseeable future along with many of the other communal ways we come together as humans. Longing for that cathartic sense of collective unity one only gets from a gathering of people, we tried our best to capture the sound and feeling of a large group of people singing a simple melody together in unison in the chorus”.

“Making new Juliana Theory music was not really something I thought would ever happen again. If you had asked me 5 or 6 years ago if the band would ever make new music I would have emphatically said ‘no’” Detar continues. “But in 2019 lead guitarist and founding member Josh Fiedler and I were asked out of the blue to do a 30-show acoustic tour playing our old songs in a way we never had before”. Thanks to good timing in between films (Detar is now an accomplished composer for film including "The Devil Inside" and "Brahms: The Boy II"), the duo, who met in a high school guitar class, decided to give the acoustic tour a shot even though their closeness had waned over the band’s hiatus. “Much to my delight the tour ended up being one of the most enjoyable things either of us had done in years. We truly had a great time hanging out and performing together and got along perfectly. If anything, I'd say the time we shared gave us each a new-found respect for one another both as musicians and more importantly as humans. Continuing to make music together after the tour ended just felt right – almost like coming home in a way”.

The Juliana Theory rose through Western Pennsylvania’s post-hardcore scene of the late 90s and early 00s and went on to become one of the most highly cited influences for the next generation of alternative artists. Always willing to push the boundaries, the band unabashedly mixed their punk rock and pop influences into a sound well ahead of their time. “It’s truly an honor to be a part of the team as The Juliana Theory write their next chapter” Equal Vision’s Dan Sandshaw said. “‘Can’t Go Home’ feels modern, yet somehow familiar. This is such an important song for the soundtrack of 2020”.
“Can’t Go Home” is written by Brett Detar and long-time collaborator Benjamin Romans (LP, Carly Rae Jepsen) and co-produced by Courtney Ballard (Jessie J), Benjamin Romans, and Brett Detar and marks a new era for the band. “The Juliana Theory never did shy away from changing our sonic identity from release to release but the emotional core of our songs has always remained the same. At no point have we ever wanted to repeat ourselves and retread the same worn out territory and try and fail at recreating a past era of the band” said Detar. “I like to think this is exactly what The Juliana Theory in 2020 should sound like".
The music video for “Can’t Go Home” was directed by Detar and produced by Jesse Korman, known for his work with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and James Franco’s Pretenders and stars Simone Niamani Thompson, May Daniels, Eric Angelo Espiritu, and Marc Neil Baker. Check out the video and song now and fans can expect more news from The Juliana Theory in 2021.

Dann lieber ein Revival von "Top Of The World".

THE JULIANA THEORY
USHER IN A BETTER NEW YEAR WITH HOPEFUL
“BETTER NOW” SONG & VIDEO

OUT TODAY VIA RUDE RECORDS/EQUAL VISION RECORDS

The Juliana Theory have returned with “Better Now”, kicking off 2021 with a strikingly hopeful song and video. “Better Now” is just the second new track from The Juliana Theory after a 15-year hiatus from making music and kicks off a year that is sure to bring more from the newly reunited Brett Detar and Josh Fielder. Watch the video for “Better Now” and the track is now available via your preferred listening service.

“Recently I’ve had a number of loved ones either going through bad addictions or an especially difficult time. One night, not long ago, a friend that I care about deeply who had been struggling came over to my little music studio”. Detar reflected on the origins of the song. “Although they didn’t say a lot with words it didn’t matter. I knew they were really hurting and I was especially struck by the visceral feeling I got from just a few telling glances. If it’s true that the eyes are the window to the soul then what I saw through that window was a turbulent storm leaving damage in its wake. The look of hurt I saw resonated with me throughout the night and when I woke up the next morning it was still just as resonant. I’m not always the best at speaking things in the right way. I wanted to encourage my friend but maybe I was too afraid to be vulnerable enough to say what I felt. So when I woke I wrote these lyrics - the words I wanted to say to my friend the night before - words of hope. The truth is I needed to speak a lot of these words to myself as 2020 dealt me a level of depression and anxiety that I had never felt before. ‘Better Now’ is a song about what comes after rock bottom. It’s ok to need help. It’s ok to ask for help. It’s ok to feel hopeless. It likely won’t happen overnight but just know that things will get better. ‘Hold on. Don’t speak the word ‘surrender'".

“Better Now” follows the November release of “Can’t Go Home", which marked the band’s first new song in more than 15 years as well as their singing to Rude Records/Equal Vision Records. The video, which was released on New Year’s Day, was made in collaboration with friend and director Jesse Korman, who also produced the expansive and cinematic video for “Can’t Go Home” and is known for his work on James Franco’s Pretenders. “This video tells three separate stories of humans battling their own monsters” Detar says. “Maybe their stories aren’t exactly your story but as the lyric says ‘everyone’s got issues just creeping underneath – secret sleeping demons – no one even sees them – but you can show yours to me.’ Maybe I’m a dreamer but I still believe in the power of art to help us heal so If you’re looking for some encouragement please watch this beautiful video. Here’s to new beginnings".

Watch the video for “Better Now” or listen to the song today. Fans can expect more from the duo in the coming months and can to visit www.thejulianatheory.com for the most-up-to-date information.

THE JULIANA THEORY
ANNOUNCES "A DREAM AWAY"
AN LP THAT REIMAGINES SONGS FROM THEIR PAST THROUGH A NEW LENS – OUT MARCH 26TH VIA RUDE/EQUAL VISION

LISTEN TO “IF I TOLD YOU THIS WAS KILLING ME, WOULD YOU STOP? (REIMAGINED)” NOW!

Today The Juliana Theory share plans for their first album, "A Dream Away", in over 15 years as they continue to release music after their surprise return last fall. Due out March 26th via Rude/ Equal Vision Records, "A Dream Away" sees the duo – Brett Detar and Joshua Fielder – reimagining some of their most beloved tracks through a fresh lens and a new perspective. Along with the news, the band has shared the first of those arrangements with a stunning stripped back version of “If I Told You This Was Killing Me, Would You Stop?” from their seminal 2000 album, "Emotion Is Dead". Listen to “If I Told You This Was Killing Me, Would You Stop (Reimagined)” here and vinyl pre-orders for "A Dream Away" will be available starting at 2:22pm EST today via www.adreamaway.shop.

“When I was a kid I used to wait in anticipation for new episodes of MTV’s ‘Unplugged’. I loved how artists would sit on stools in an intimate venue and perform their otherwise electrified songs on almost entirely acoustic instruments. At its best, ‘Unplugged’ versions of songs could outshine the ‘official’ versions”, Brett says. He reminisces on the incredible artistry and imagination of episodes featuring Nirvana, Neil Young and Jay-Z, all of whom showcased how a good song could be arranged in many ways, with different instruments, tempos, and altogether different life. When he and Josh were asked to do an acoustic tour in 2019 – the tour that led to their ultimate comeback – the duo began to strip back and reimagine their most well-loved songs much in the spirit of "Unplugged" laying the foundation for "A Dream Away". He continues: “It was a very fun challenge to try and honor the pure, creative spirit these songs were originally made with while building upon the acoustic foundation with mellotrons, pianos, glockenspiels, woodwinds, and a healthy dose of strings. I hope that the love and care and time we put into these arrangements shines through”.

Once they landed on the concept of "A Dream Away", no song from their back catalogue called to them faster than “If I Told You This Was Killing Me, Would You Stop?” – a posthardcore staple they opened each set on 2019’s acoustic tour with. “Every night we were playing these songs that people knew but they were in a format that we had never done before and that is what was so interesting to me about it. It was really cool to watch the expression on people's faces when we started our set and they weren’t necessarily sure what song it was just yet and then to see that spark of recognition and excitement when ‘Watch Your Mouth!’ came in. Everyone was singing along by the third word”, Brett remembers. “That tour was the foundation for this record”.

The band has also shared that their New Year’s Day release “Better Now” will also appear on "A Dream Away". Capturing the spirit of looking towards brighter days, the duo sat down recently to chat with To Write Love On Her Arms about the song and emotional video’s depth and why it was important to release it to start off 2021 as they spread a message of hope and strength. “Better Now” followed the November release of “Can’t Go Home”, which marked the band’s first new music in more than 15 years as well as their signing to Rude/Equal Vision Records.

Listen to “If I Told You This Was Killing Me, Would You Stop? (Reimagined)” now and pre-order "A Dream Away" on vinyl later today. For the most up to date information, visit www.thejulianatheory.com.

Und wo ist überhaupt "Can't go home" abgeblieben?

Schade, schade. Ich hatte nach "Can't go home" wirklich Hoffnungen auf ein Comeback voller Esprit.

THE JULIANA THEORY
SHARE REIMAGINED VERSION OF "QUINTESSENTIAL"
CLASSIC TRACK "INTO THE DARK" TODAY

Pulling from their seminal 2000 album, "Emotion is Dead", The Juliana Theory today release an expansive and orchestral version of a song lead vocalist Brett Detar says has always showcased The Juliana Theory at its best. "Into the Dark" (Reimagined) is out now via your preferred listening service today.

"'Into the Dark' is arguably my favorite song from the band's catalog. I'm sure the song owes its DNA to all kinds of other artists and songs but for whatever reason the amalgamation of how all of those pieces came together felt to me like its own thing. It was the quintessential TJT song. If I had to play a person just one song from our catalog to represent what the band is - it'd be 'Into The Dark'. I think it's just a great middle ground of all the different sounds we explored. It's a blend of hook-driven pop rock and bombastic guitar rock without being too much of either. It's intimate yet anthemic at the same time. It has moody, personal subject matter in the verses that turns more universal and hopeful in the chorus. It's one of the first songs that we truly experimented with in the studio. We sampled and chopped up my vocals and used them in place of synth pads. It was the first song that we wrote part of around a synth part".

"Giving nod to classic waltzes - the original recording on 'Emotion Is Dead' had a small string arrangement in the bridge so for this reimagined version we just doubled down on some of those more orchestral and cinematic elements from the original and expanded on them and combined that with the acoustic arrangement we played on our last tour. The song always had that classic soft / loud dynamic that so many bands in the wake of Nirvana did so we just tried to accentuate that. Now the quieter parts are even smaller and more intimate but it expands and gets a lot more vast than the original. If anything the lyrics in some ways mean more to me now than they did when I wrote them. 'I'd give you my hand if you'd reach out and grab it. Let's walk away from this hell.' I can't count how many times a piece of music has actually been that 'hand' that I've reached out to grab to lift me up when I was struggling. I'm just glad I can still turn to some of these songs years later to still find that optimistic promise of hope that lived inside the daydreams of youth". -Brett Detar on "Into the Dark" (Reimagined).

"Into the Dark" (Reimagined) is the third tack released from the band's forthcoming album "A Dream Away", due out on March 26th, 2021 via Equal Vision Records. Their first album in fifteen years sees the duo – Brett Detar and Joshua Fielder – reimagining some of their most beloved tracks through a fresh lens and a new perspective. The idea sprouted from a 2019 acoustic tour which would become the bases of the duo's surprise return to making new music together 15 years later. On that tour, they began to strip back and rethink some of their most well-loved songs much in the spirit on MTV's Unplugged. “It was a very fun challenge to try and honor the pure, creative spirit these songs were originally made with while building upon the acoustic foundation with mellotrons, pianos, glockenspiels, woodwinds, and a healthy dose of strings", Detar says.

"A Dream Away" was announced last month with another track from "Emotion Is Dead" - "If I Told You This Was Killing Me, Would You Stop?" (Reimagined) - listen now". Those two tracks along with a brand new song, "Better Now" which captures the hope and spirit of looking towards brighter days, will all appear on "A Dream Away", with the full tracklisting below.

Limited vinyl variants sold out within hours of the announcement. Today, the band has shared that two new variants limited to runs of 100 vinyl each will be available starting at 1pm ET via www.adreamaway.shop!

The band also announced their first live show in support of "A Dream Away" at the just announced Furnace Fest, happening Sept. 24-26th in Birmingham, AL. Tickets and full lineup is available now at www.furnacefest.us.

THE JULIANA THEORY
TAPS MEMBERS OF THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN & NUMBER 12 LOOKS LIKE YOU FOR
"WE'RE AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD"
REIMAGINED VIDEO

The Juliana Theory – Brett Detar and Joshua Fielder – are back with another reimagining this week - "We're At The Top Of The World" - another classic track pulled from their seminal 2000 album Emotion Is Dead. The song is now available to stream via your preferred listening service and comes alongside an incredible new video featuring Jesse Korman of The Number 12 Looks Like You and Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan and explores the idea of "guilty pleasures".

Brett says of the idea behind the video: “Let’s talk about 'guilty pleasures'. We all have them and for a lot of people The Juliana Theory (and the song 'Top of The World' in particular) is one of them. I can’t tell you how many times some big burly guy who looks like he only listens to Slayer would almost look around to make sure no one was listening before quietly telling me that he secretly loves that song. I basically did the same thing with certain songs I enjoyed until a few years ago when I decided to banish the concept of a 'guilty pleasure' from my own life. Truthfully, I would always blast 'Party In the USA' by Miley Cyrus if it came on the radio while driving the streets of LA but now I don’t care what any ultra hip kid thinks when I roll past them as I am singing along. The joy of completely losing yourself in a song, dancing like no one is watching, is one of life’s greatest pleasures. The video for 'Top Of The World' tells the ultimate story of this very abandonment. So put your hands up: they’re playing your song and the butterflies fly away“.

On the song's reimagining, Josh says: “'We’re At The Top Of The World', while being some people’s favorite TJT song, was always one of my least favorite songs from the band. However, now that we recorded it for this 'reimagined' record, this is THE version for me. When I initially wrote the chords and bassline at home ages ago, I always envisioned this song as an ode to the Beatles. This new rendition is exactly the way I imagined it to be back in 2000. We were just too young then to truly pull it off in this way. If I could have a time machine I would go back to put this version on 'Emotion Is Dead'”.

Due out next week, "A Dream Away" is the Juliana Theory's first album in fifteen years and sees the band reimagining some of their most beloved tracks through a fresh lens and a new perspective.

Vinyl sold out within hours of release but today the band has released an additional two color variants limited to 100 each! A limited Black Metal Collection of merch celebrating "We're At The Top Of The World" Reimagined is also out today. Shop at adreamaway.shop!

The band also announced their first live show in support of "A Dream Away" at Furnace Fest, happening Sept. 24-26th in Birmingham, AL. Tickets and full lineup is available now at www.furnacefest.us.

Ja. Aber ein sehr guter Song. Lieber als das, was Du zurecht "schlichte Frechheit" nennst.
