Commemorating a three-decade reign as one of metal’s most monolithic bands, Full Upon Her Burning Lips spares no expense in time or talent. While the duo’s musical vocabulary has expanded as the years have passed, every note still carries the weight of the world. Back with a sound more organic thane ver, the tried-and-true magic between guitarist Dylan Carlson and percussionist Adrienne Davies unfurls with each of the record’s ten tracks. “In the past I’ve usually had a strong framework for an album,” Carlson says of the album’s gestation process. “This one developed one over the course of the writing and recording. It just felt like ‘Earth’—like just the two players doing their best work at playing, serving the music.” The absence of a guiding narrative allowed Carlson and Davies to be more inquisitive, resulting in more terse musical vignettes unbound by context. Bolstered by the engineering, mixing, and mastering by longtime associate Mell Dettmer, Full Upon Her Burning Lips is a leap into undiscovered territory. The purest distillation of Earth yet, and indeed, anyone that’s followed Earth on their journey will bask in the unadulterated hums, throbs, and reverberations conjured by Carlson and Davies. Die Perücke von Robert Plant	17.05.2019 - 00:58 Uhr Die Band steht ja für sich wiederholende Strukturen und Minimalismus. Und das kann auch schon mal bis an die Schmerzgrenze gehen. Doch vielleicht ist es diesmal wirklich selbst vor diesem Hintergrund uninspiriert. Muss ich selbst mal reinhören, Zeit für ein neues Earth-Album war es durchaus. Ansonsten war "Angels Of Darkness/Demons Of Light" wohl das Opus Magnum.
Zwiebel Etto	17.05.2019 - 08:28 Uhr mhhh, ziemlicher Verriss... find die beiden bisherigen Auskopplungen eigl. sehr gelungen. Da ich die Scheibe zusammen mit der Baroness gepreordert habe, werde ich noch eine Weile auf das Vinyl warten müssen. Ob ich mir das gesamte Album im Vorfeld digital gebe, mal schauen. Ob jetzt "Angels Of Darkness/Demons Of Light", "The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull" oder vllt doch "Primitive and Deadly" als Hochphase Ihres Schaffen zu bezeichnen ist... Dafür sind sie in Ihrer Monotonie doch zu unterschiedlich ;-)

Earth zählten lange Zeit zu meinen absoluten Favoriten im Bereich Drone/Doom/Whatever und Songs wie etwa OLD BLACK gehören auch heute noch regelmäßig auf jeden gut sortierten Plattenteller. Ich werde mir mein eigenes Bild davon machen, aber 4 Punkte klingen schon knüppelhart.

Corristo Postings: 1148 Registriert seit 22.09.2016	24.02.2021 - 13:02 Uhr Hatte gewartet, bis ich mal wieder in eine Earth-Phase komme und nachdem ich es jetzt gehört habe, kann ich die Kritik an dem Album nicht so nachvollziehen. Sie haben vielleicht keine so prägnante Änderung im Sound wie mit dem genialen Cello auf der Angels/Demons oder der für ihre Verhältnisse Opulenz und dem Gesang auf Primitive and Deadly. Aber neue Ideen sind allemal vorhanden. Und Minimalismus war bei dem Projekt doch immer schon angesagt. Ausgefeiltes Songwriting und Spannungsbögen sind hier eher nicht zu erwarten. Also entweder man erfreut sich an den epischen Flächen oder eben nicht und an den subtilen oder manchmal auch genialen Änderungen, die nach drei Minuten mal eintreten oder halt mal auch nicht. Aber innerhalb des Earth-Kosmos auf jeden Fall kein schlechtes Album, mir gefällts sogar ziemlich gut. Und es gibt allemal mehr Veränderung als bei AC/DC oder Motorhead. ;) Und ich halte Earth im Allgemeinen für relativ hörbar. Es gibt da noch deutlich Radikaleres in Sachen Minimalismus.
