IDLES FINISH RECORDING SECOND ALBUM

ANNOUNCE SIGNING TO PARTISAN RECORDS

Selected recent press for IDLES and "Brutalism":

A Bristol quintet who sound absolutely furious and thrilling; an inchoate cry of rage, with guitars that could raze the city – The Guardian

IDLES might just be the best live guitar band in Europe - The Quietus

A rare rock record with the rage, urgency, wit and shattering of complacency usually found only in grime. – Uncut

Having started the year as virtual unknowns, IDLES end it as one of the most important bands in the country. - DIY

You need them in your life right now - Kerrang!

IDLES are one of the most exciting British bands right now and Brutalism is proof - The Line Of Best Fit

Brutalism is loaded with some of the most fiery performances and brutally honest lyrics I've heard in years. - The Needle Drop

Visceral anthems that’s timed weirdly well for this year’s madness – NME

Sharp charisma and cathartic vulnerability. - Dork

Party garage that sounds like a cross between Sauna Youth and Jay Reatard – The i

Brutalism presents a new assertive punk that’s as witty as it is savage and valiant. – Upset

The band are impossibly tight, offering an onslaught that pitches itself somewhere alongside the sensory overload of Girl Band or Hookworms. Savage, frantic but surprisingly minimalist. - Loud & Quiet

IDLES are probably the most relevant band in Britain right now - Drowned In Sound

Brutalism is bracing, caustic, and relentless - Pop Matters

Belligerent, angry and brimming with socio-political commentary, a brutal, in-your-face indictment of, well, pretty much everything. - Team Rock

Brutalism is an unhinged and severely vicious record that questions everyday conventions and isn’t afraid to attack certain taboos. The 13 track debut album is a goliath sounding record driven by a simplistic, thumping rhythm section, topped with cacophonous guitars and obtuse, thought-provoking lyrics. – CLASH

The group excel at playing an acerbic brand of blistering and attitude-laden rock that we firmly enjoy. - London In Stereo

One of the best live bands out there – CRACK

Righteously annoyed noise – on the up – Total Guitar

Sheer bleak beauty – Louder Than War

After a landmark 2017 for the band, Bristol's IDLES are proud to begin 2018 with the news that they have finished recording their second album and with the announcement that they have signed to Partisan Records.

"IDLES have signed to Partisan Records. This is not a decision based on greed. They excite us and have injected ideas and passions into our camp that we would not have mustered. We as a family have realised our limitations in as far as the ship we have built with you all is becoming too much for the team we have to achieve the best of our abilities. It was time to admit a necessity for help but we needed that to come in the form of trusted, earnest and like-minded people who were as passionate about our art and you people as we were: Partisan Records are the partners we were looking for. We haven't been given a huge wedge of cash but instead a huge wedge of confidence that we are in safe hands and make no mistake, we are not going to stop working fucking hard for you and ourselves."
Joe Talbot, IDLES

Partisan Records was co-founded in Brooklyn in 2007 by Tim Putnam and Ian Wheeler and now has offices in New York, London and LA. They have previously worked with the likes of Cigarettes After Sex, Deer Tick, Torres, Eagulls and John Grant.

“We’re very excited to welcome IDLES to our roster. They are an altogether necessary band for the times we live in and we are honoured to have been trusted as their chosen partners. As Joe says: All Is Love!”
Tim Putnam, Partisan Records

IDLES have also announced their first headlining dates in US & Canada for March:

Fri March 9 - Brooklyn NY @ Ceremony
Sat March 10 - Brooklyn NY @ Flowers For All Occasions
Sun March 11 - Philadelphia PA @ PhilaMOCA
Tue March 20 - Toronto ON @ Smiling Buddha

They will also be playing SXSW.

Further info:

Last year's "Brutalism" LP received considerable attention on its release and this alongside their incendiary live shows has garnered them a enviable and ever-growing fan base. Jeremy Vine is among their admirers, they were in Loud & Quiet, CRACK, NME and Radio 6’s albums of the year, they were 33-1 for the Mercury Prize at Ladbrokes ahead of announcement and they had the biggest crowd of the whole weekend on The Lake Stage at Latitude where they also performed a secret set for the BBC, also rammed, directly after at the Introducing stage. By the time of Reading & Leeds, they were a must see band and both tents were full for their performances.

As well as their own headlining tour, the band performed dates with Dead Kennedys, DIIV, were The Maccabees special guests at all three of their final shows at Alexandra Palace and were hand-picked by Foo Fighters to support them at their massive O2 shows in September.

They’ve not been hurt by a succession of brilliant, self-directed music videos either. Take a watch of their recent video for “Mother”, where front man Joe Talbot proceeds to destroy a table full of china, piece by piece:

Super.

Bristol 5-piece IDLES (“the UK's best punk band" - The Guardian) have confirmed details for their anticipated second LP - ‘Joy as an Act of Resistance.’ will be out August 31st via Partisan Records. IDLES have also shared the album’s first single, a pro-immigration anthem entitled “Danny Nedelko,” which takes its name from one of the band’s close friends (and Ukrainian immigrant). The song is accompanied by a self-directed video that features Danny himself, listen/watch HERE.

Produced by Space and mixed by Adam Greenspan & Nick Launay (Arcade Fire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kate Bush), ‘Joy as an Act of Resistance.’ takes aim at everything from toxic masculinity, nationalism, immigration, and class inequality - all while maintaining a visceral, infectious positivity. Singer Joe Talbot summarises: “This album is an attempt to be vulnerable to our audience and to encourage vulnerability; a brave naked smile in this shitty new world. We have stripped back the songs and lyrics to our bare flesh to allow each other to breathe, to celebrate our differences, and act as an ode to communities and the individuals that forge them. Because without our community, we’d be nothing.”

Read Joe’s full statement on the album’s inspiration and origins here.

Last week IDLES unleashed blistering 2-part album opener, “Colossus,” along with a music video that features cameos from Stone Cold Steve Austin, Fred Astaire, Evel Knievel, Jesus Christ + more. Listen/watch HERE.

This fall, IDLES will embark on their first ever global tour, including their biggest London headliner yet at O2 Forum Kentish Town on 18th October. Their last London headliner, at Heaven, sold out nearly six months in front.

Tickets are on sale now HERE

This afternoon IDLES have shared new material in a searing takedown of toxic masculinity entitled "Samaritans". A live favourite for sometime, the Theo Watkins directed music video compiles archival clips displaying traditional masculine imagery. The FADER writes: ""The mask of masculinity is a mask that's wearing me," sings front man Joe Talbot over the top of a tight and anxiety-laced guitar riff. It's the third single... and one of their most confrontational songs to date."

Listen/watch here and feel free to share:

Speaking of the song’s message, front man Joe Talbot says:

"There's been a long line of bullshit that has pushed men into a corner, where simple masking becomes a trope of masculinity and a catalyst for insanity. What we wear, what we eat, what razor we use, high performance chewing gum, go faster shampoo, how we treat women, how we treat ourselves, how we die. I truly believe that masculinity has gone from an evolution of cultural praxis to a disease. I wanted to encourage a conversation about gender roles by writing this song."

"Samaritans" is the third song to be released from IDLES's much-anticipated upcoming album "Joy As An Act Of Resistance." Produced by Space and mixed by Adam Greenspan & Nick Launay (Arcade Fire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kate Bush), The album takes aim at everything from nationalism and immigration to class inequality - all while maintaining a visceral, infectious positivity.

Wirkt alles so anbiedernd.
