Connecticut-based atmospheric post-emo band The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die have announced that their second full-length album, Harmlessness, will be released on September 25 via Epitaph.

The first song shared is "January 10th, 2014" in which the band recalls the true story of a woman in Mexico called Diana, Hunter of Bus Drivers. David Bello, vocalist of TWIABPexplains:

“’January 10th, 2014' is a song about retaliation against predators. The character in the song, Diana, is based on the story of a woman from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico who avenged unprosecuted and largely ignored sexual assaults being committed by bus drivers on their routes. The video replaces the real life Diana with Dianic Wiccans who protect themselves using hexes and their own spirituality. The male character in the video is a predator, and therefore must be destroyed."

The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die titled their first releaseFormlessness and the word has seemingly become a thesis for the band ever since.Harmlessness is a new acme in striking melodies, poignant narratives, and confident, compelling songs out of the band's own complicated and imaginative aesthetic. TWIABP has made flexible, vivid art out of their refusal to be any one form. And as vocalist and guitar player Derrick Shanholtzer-Dvorak explains, "'Harmlessness' is a state to be achieved and an ethos that fits with the open spirit of being 'formless'.

TWIABP create their dense textured sound with multi-layered and heavily effected guitars as well as synthesizer, cello, and trumpet. They have released one full length album, Whenever, If Ever, in 2013 on Topshelf Records that was lauded "revolutionary" by Pitchfork. The band's lineup is ever-changing and currently consists of David Bello – vocals, Josh Cyr – bass, Derrick Shanholtzer-Dvorak – guitar & vocals, Steven Buttery – drums, Chris Teti – guitar & trumpet, Tyler Bussey - guitar, and Katie Shanholtzer-Dvorak - keyboards, vocals.

Will Yip, der mittlerweile für seine großartigen Produktionen bekannt ist, wandelte die überirdischen Träumereien der Band in ein spektakuläres Breitbilderlebnis. Schlagzeug und Basslinien beben mit den Fehlern dieser Welt, während eine Arme aus Gitarren und multi-instrumentellen Nuancen Paranoia, Massenhysterie und gewaltfreie Begeisterung einläuten. Werde bei Gelegenheit mal reinhören. Auf dem Vorgänger und auch live waren sie ja ganz nett. Scheint ja aber ein ganz schöner Brocken im Vergleich zum Vorgänger zu sein.

TWIABP, have approached the art of making albums with intrepid imagination. Written as a group, Harmlessness finds the band developing some of its very best songs, even as certain tracks sprawl and stretch into abstract shapes. The album is a breakthrough, a new acme for a band that has done brilliant work in crafting striking melodies, poignant narratives, and confident, compelling songs out of their own complicated and imaginative aesthetic. The album ranges from the hushed folk of opener “You Can’t Live Here Forever” to the epic, grandiose “Mount Hum” – spanning the bedroom pop of the band’s salad days to the sweeping scope of the band's 2013’s Whenever, If Ever, and beyond.

The group create their dense textured sound with multi-layered and heavily effected guitars as well as synthesizer, cello, and trumpet. In their idealistic maximalist world, more of everything is better. They have released one full length album, Whenever, If Ever, in 2013 on Topshelf Records that was lauded "revolutionary" by Pitchfork. Wie erwartet ist es ein sehr gutes Album geworden.

8/10 nach ungefähr 10 Durchgängen (mit starker Tendenz nach oben)

Hm. Erster Eindruck: Ich hätte das vermutlich ziemlich hemmungslos abgefeiert.
Gefällt auf Anhieb sehr gut. Wirkt im Vergleich zum Vorgänger etwas strukturierter und aufgeräumter produziert, was dem Ganzen ziemlich gut tut.

hatte sie letztes jahr live gesehen (mit empire! empire! (iwale)) und hat mir doch recht gut gefallen. war über weite strecken ne regelrechte wall of sound mit diesen feinen, twinkelnden noten. konnte mit dem sänger nach dem konzert auch ein paar sätze wechseln und war recht sympathisch.
hatte sie das erste mal auf der split mit deer leap gehört und war regelrecht schockiert, wie tief mich das berührt hat, gerade der schlusssong.
haben mich dann aber irgendwo zwischen whenever,if ever und dieser spoken word-Platte verloren.
vor ein paar monaten hatte ich dann das neue album gehört und es hat mich leider kaum mitgerissen. klang mir dann doch zu sehr nach nem 2. whenever, if ever. im gesamtbild aber dennoch eine der besseren bands aus dem mittlerweile ausgelutschten emo-revival-genre.

Habe ich schon lange nicht mehr gemacht, aber da das Album für mich ein wahrer Dauerbrenner ist, mal eine Songbewertung meinerseits:
