***STUDIO UPDATE
-the band is "wrapping up" production on the third album...
-it is LIKELY (but not 100% confirmed yet!) that it will be slated for
a JANUARY 2006 release worldwide.
-by the fall, (maybe october/november) we should have a SINGLE hitting
the airwaves worldwide.
-the album is NOT titled yet, nor do i have any titles for SONGS
yet...it seems the band decided on these things last.
-i can tell you that there are 13 songs that are nearly fully
completed, but we still have NOT mixed the album, so we'll continue
into june and july with that....this is NOT to say that there will be
13 songs on the album....maybe there will, maybe there won't...some
could be b-sides...we'll decided that when the recording is 100% done.
-we're very pleased to announce that ANDY WALLACE has agreed to come
on-board and mix the album when it's done being recorded. his credits
include work with Nirvana, Prince, Springsteen and Jeff Buckley,
amongst others.

***TOURING
-we're looking into setting up some "pre-release" touring for select
cities in EUROPE for the fall, (and possibly JAPAN & AUSTALIA) but
these venues would likely be VERY small club shows, and just a small
handful of cities, just to re-introduce the band and preview some songs
on the upcoming record. more on that later...i have nothing confirmed
yet...hopefully
-we're ATTEMPTING to finally make good on our promise to visit SOUTH
AMERICA...our plan is to get there BEFORE the end of the year...i know
we've promised that a few times and haven't been able to make it, but
we're talking to promoters now to set something up for november....
NOTHING is confirmed yet! so don't believe any rumors that you might
hear...when the dates are confirmed, then i'll put them on our website,
so you don't have to e-mail me everyday asking if they're true or not!
we're doing our best to make it down there...
-for the US, we're hoping to do something similar possibly in the few
weeks leading up to the album release in january...just a few small
venue shows in select cites around the country, as sort of a preview
tour...
-throughout 2006, after the album is released, we plan on doing much
more extensive touring than we did on ROOM ON FIRE...so hang in
there...much too soon to have detailed information on that, but we're
setting up some pretty substantial touring...

Bin gespannt.

he real Casablancas describes the album as such: "I don't wanna go overboard, but I'm pretty excited. It's like a seedless watermelon-- I like it."

Fortunately, that's not all the news, because Casablancas' taste in fruit does not a news item make. Some song titles have come to light, including "Razor Blade", "Vision of Division", and "Ask Me Anything". Apparently, Julian's voice takes charge on this album, with lyrics such as "My feelings are more important than yours" on "Razor Blade". One track features nothing but his vocals and a Mellotron, operated by Nick Valensi in an apparent bid to become the group's Jonny Greenwood (surely his Bodysong is just a few quick Ondes-Martinot chords away).

As previously reported, a single and a short European tour are expected by year's end. While full plans for taking the album on the road have yet to be cemented, Casablancas insists the tour will be bigger than previous tours this time around, adding, "We were a little road-weary after Room on Fire, so it was light. Now I think we're ready for fatal touring again-- to go all out. We got our energy back."

*schulterzuck*

Ein bisschen Neues:

STROKES HIT THE ROAD

THE STROKES are to resume touring in October, NME.COM can reveal.

The band will road-test songs from their third album, due next year, on a series of dates across South America.

A statement reads: “The Strokes are back! The band will return to the stage this October for the first time in a year to tour South America. All we can say for now is that they will be playing Brazil, Argentina and Chile. More info and will be posted here as soon as we get it including tour dates and ticket information.”

The group have spent most of this year working on third record. The band recently invited NME.COM into the heart of their recording process, playing 14 unmixed tracks, some of them so new the band haven’t even had time to name them yet.

All are being considered for the band’s next album, the follow-up to 2003’s ‘Room On Fire’, due early next year.

The songs see the band moving into more experimental areas, something drummer Fab Moretti believes is down to the relaxed atmosphere created by building their own studio into their Midtown Manhattan Music Building rehearsal space.

He revealed: "To get where we are right now we couldn't have the pressure of hearing the fucking change fall in the bucket every time seconds passed (in the studio). So instead of using the money they (the label) were going to give us to make the third record at a studio, we just bought our equipment and now we have it permanently and we don't feel that guillotine falling. It really helps us to explore."

Album three marks a distinct shift from the serious and sometimes anxious attitude that has previously surrounded The Strokes camp, and credit has been given to new producer David Kahne who brought a different side out of the band.

Introduced to The Strokes by Sean Lennon, Fab was quick to praise Kahne’s influence.

"Kahne really showed his guns and shit," declared Fab of the producer who amicably replaced their long time collaborator Gordon Raphael in the control booth. "We always set out to do something different. Maybe we didn't have the tools to do it on the second record like we do now with David Kahne and our new studio, you know?"

Admitting the band felt rushed on ‘Room On Fire’, Fab insisted the band are set to return with a renewed confidence.

"I feel like this was the perfect amount of time and it's gonna be the perfect set up for the record,” he said, “because we'll be able to go to all the places we want to go and not feel like we don't have the best possible record we could have on our hands."

The album is now being mixed at Soundtrack Studios, and the first single is due in the autumn.
