Stereolab kündigen ihr erstes neues Studioalbum seit 15 Jahren an!
Instant Holograms On Metal Film erscheint am 23. Mai 2025 über Duophonic UHF Disks / Warp
Stereolab kündigen ein neues Album mit dem Titel Instant Holograms On Metal Film an, das am 23. Mai 2025 in Zusammenarbeit mit dem bandeigenen Label Duophonic UHF Disks und Warp Records veröffentlicht wird. Das erste neue Album seit fünfzehn Jahren enthält dreizehn Songs, die von Laetitia Sadier und Tim Gane geschrieben und von Laetitia, Tim, Andy Ramsay, Joe Watson und Xavi Muñoz, der aktuellen Tournee-Besetzung der Band, eingespielt wurden.
Das Album enthält außerdem Gastbeiträge von Cooper Crain und Rob Frye (Bitchin Bajas), Ben LaMar Gay (International Anthem), Ric Elsworth, Holger Zapf (Cavern Of Anti-Matter), Marie Merlet und Molly Hansen Read.
Instant Holograms On Metal Film wird als Doppel-Vinyl-LP in Standard- und Farbvarianten sowie als Compact Disc und in digitalen Formaten erhältlich sein.

Letzte Woche erhielten einige Fans der Band ein Paket mit der Aufschrift „unaufgefordertes Stereolab-Material“. Darin befand sich eine 7„-Single, die auf der einen Seite “Aerial Troubles" enthielt, auf der anderen Seite eine Instrumentalversion, mit einem kryptischen Wortsucheinleger. Zur gleichen Zeit tauchten in mehreren Großstädten Plakate mit dem Namen der Band auf, auf denen das gleiche Wortgitter abgedruckt war. In den letzten Tagen wurden mehrere Versuche unternommen, das Rätsel zu lösen, und im Internet wurde viel darüber spekuliert, wie die Wörter zusammenpassen und ob die Single tatsächlich neue Musik oder etwas aus den Archiven der Band enthielt.
In den letzten Tagen wurde das Albumcover auf der Anmeldeseite von Lab Report auf der Website der Band langsam enthüllt, wobei nach und nach verschiedene Ebenen auftauchten. Die 7" wurde am 2. April 2025 veröffentlicht, auf den Tag genau sechzehn Jahre nach der Ankündigung der Band, auf unbestimmte Zeit zu pausieren. Im Jahr 2019 veröffentlichte die Band erweiterte und remasterte Ausgaben von sieben ihrer Studioalben, zeitgleich mit Stereolab, die zum ersten Mal seit neun Jahren wieder live auftraten. Seitdem sind sie weiterhin sporadisch auf Tour und haben ihren Katalog mit der Veröffentlichung der Compilations Electrically Possessed [Switched On Vol 4] im Jahr 2021 und Pulse Of The Early Brain [Switched On Vol 5] im Jahr 2022 weiter ausgebaut.
