Kenne eigentlich zu wenig, aber seine Erstlingswerke, die "Insen", "Async" und weitere sind meisterlich. Höre ich weiterhin gerne und zählen auch zu meinen Lieblingsalben überhaupt. Und wenn man gerade sieht, wer alles kondoliert: Einflussreich ohne Ende - von Oneohtrix bis ?uestlove, Alva Noto. Meine Twitter-Timeline (50% Musiker:innen) kennt aktuell nur ein Thema... RIP

Aber wie gesagt auch "Love is the Devil". Sehr speziell, dabei ein interessanter Sound-Trip in die Vergangenheit der Avantgarde-Musik, zu der der Film spielt (den ich auch super finde). Ich hab ansonsten auch noch ein paar seiner nicht-elektronischen Alben; nicht alle sind gleichermaßen interessant. Sehr schön aber "1996", das viele, für Solo, Duo und Trio neu arrangierte frühere Stücke von ihm enthält.

Was ein toller und unfassbar vielseitiger Musiker. Ich bin sehr froh in mal im Konzerthaus live gesehen zu haben, tolle Präsenz, ein echter Charakter, der gezeigt hat, dass man dafür nicht laut sein muss.

His listening abilities were unparalleled, he always made the time to meet for a coffee or dinner, no matter how busy he was, he embodied such genuine curiosity, creativity and a deep concern for the planet. Getting to be his friend and be little part of his larger than life orbit was a great honour that I will always cherish. " Da hatte ich auch mal reingehört. Soweit ich mich erinnere, hätte das zu guten Teilen als IDM-Album durchgehen können - und das halt schon 1980.

He cofounded the groundbreaking band Yellow Magic Orchestra, produced dozens of solo works and collaborated with the likes of David Sylvian and Alva Noto. Rooted in the same creative period that gave rise to Sakamoto’s final solo album 12, these recordings were not originally intended as a standalone release. It was only after the completion of 12 that Sakamoto and Nicolai decided to present these exchanges as a work in their own right. The album reflects the vitality and curiosity that defined more than two decades of shared inspiration: fluid, exploratory, and forward-looking. Created with openness and trust, it captures a creative process in constant transformation – sounds expanding, altering, and evolving through attentive listening. Conceived as the continuation of an artistic dialogue extending beyond the physical, 12 Conversations honours Sakamoto’s wish that these encounters should exist beyond the archive, offering an enduring testament to one of contemporary music’s most revered collaborations. — Carsten Nicolai writes: “A heavy breath can be heard in the recordings. Yet this work is not about remembrance but continuation, vitality, curiosity, and the spirit of experimentation that shaped an artistic relationship over decades.
